Faience Map

Hans Thomas Purisch

My style is called Faience, and is based on Arts and Crafts era pottery

I was inspired by the matte, earthy color schemes and handcrafted linework charachteristic of Grueby Pottery and its contemporaries

I wanted to simulate the textures glazes aquire in the firing process

Zooming in attempts to replicate how matte tin glazes bleed into eachother in this ceramic piece

I represented famous art potteries using a symbol that replicates an Arts and Crafts style tile

I became aquianted with art pottery after being exposed to Ephraim, a pottery in the town I grew up in

The Boston area was a cultural hub for the Arts and Crafts movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries!

Rookwood Pottery was once located in Cinncinati

European borders almost look like a crackly glaze after being fired
